Global Switch Phase II London

Global Switch Phase II is the largest purpose built Carrier-Neutral Collocation data centre in Europe. The building contains an immense power house with enough electrical power to run a small town with 32 1.7mW generators and 24 chillers with a total cooling capacity of 36mW.

SPIE undertook the design, installation and commissioning of the mechanical, electrical and public health services to the building.

Dual 132,000Amp supplies are fed to the site in separate cableways allowing a power capacity up to 1,200W/sqm to the floors. The site has 32 rotary UPS generator sets with capacity to maintain supply for 48hours. The 24 chillers provide a constant 22deg C close-controlled environment within the facility. VESDA and gas suppression systems provide total.

University College London Hospital

The new 669 bed major teaching hospital for London. This large scale project, being built in two phases, will bring together all the NHS acute care facilities that are currently provided by the University College Hospital, The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

SPIE are responsible for the design and installation of the mechanical, electrical and public health services.

The scope comprises air conditioning, heating, ventilation, mains and domestic water, drainage, BMS, medical gases, pneumatic tube, nurse call, IT, kitchen equipment, HV/LV electrical supplies, standby power generation, lighting, power, fire alarms, security and sprinklers.
