Laurent, Maintenance Technician
Laurent arrives at a customer's to solve a technical problem.
I did a diploma in technical electrics and then learnt on the job.
It's very varied. HVAC, water... It can be industrial or tertiary sites... A bit of everything.
You have to be reactive when there's a problem on an installation, otherwise it can affect production and impact other areas.
Part of our job is stress management. Once you reassure the customer, all is well.
I learnt that at the technological institute on an internal SPIE training course.
We did role-play situations with someone playing the plant boss.
Laurent takes out his measuring instruments.
The customer calls us,we go on site, check the problem...
I try to find solutions, not necessarily alone. We discuss with the business managers and find solutions together. All the instructions we give to the machine temperature, pressure, and so on must be properly respected for it to function correctly.
Here, I'm taking readings via my laptop. Data on variator intensity, on the air-conditioning plant... Every day it's different.
Today it's laboratory clean rooms, tomorrow it might be a school heating system...
So, it's very varied and it has to work to perfection. I'm a perfectionist and I think that's crucial for installations ; when you leave you know all is working well.
Having completed his repairs, Laurent reports to the customer:
- Here are the keys of the plant room.
- Thank you.
- Everything went well?
- Everything is functioning correctly now, no more problems.
- Great, you're the best!
When it works, I feel proud, of myself and the company.
